History Tidbits- Peter D. Grondin

Peter David Grondin living in St. Ignace for his whole life. He was the child of Peter and Theresa Sharbineau Grondin. Indeed, the Grondin family had resided here for many generations. Mr. Grondin married Louise Truckey over 70 years before his death. He built their log cabin and Peter lived there for the remainder of his long life and had 12 children.

Peter Grondin was the one who discovered Father Marquette’s grave in 1878 while clearing brush for Patrick Murrary, on land owned by David Murray.

Peter Grondin died May 31, 1929 at the age of 95 years.
